Is Hair Loss After Pregnancy Normal For Pregnant Woman?

Posted in: Pregnancy Hair Loss

Pregnancy is a whole body experience.  After the baby is born, the mother’s body will undergo a lot of changes in order to go back to its usual normal and non-pregnant form.  However, for a mother who is nursing her baby, it will take a longer period of time to do readjustment than one who is not.  Still, always remember, it takes nine and a half months to be pregnant and to deliver, so at least it is fair that it should take the same amount of time to go back down to normal status!

The most fascinating thing about pregnancy is the way how it affects a woman’s hair.  Hormones influence the whole body, including the hair.  Which is why during the time of pregnancy, the hair becomes fuller.  This happen because the follicles don’t release hair at the same account as when the body is not pregnant.   You may have noticed that hair that was normally straight might suddenly begin to grow in curlier than ever during pregnancy.   Or, hair that was curly may get straighter and straighter as pregnancy proceeds.   So, hair loss during pregnancy is not very well-known, and hair will usually fall off less than when a woman is not pregnant.

However the condition will change after the baby is born as the extra hair will gently fall off.  Hair loss after pregnancy will become more clear than it was before or during pregnancy.   I know it can be dumbfounding to see such an increase in hair loss after pregnancy when you may find lumps of hair on the drain, or in your brush.  However, you won’t see thin patches on your head so do not worry about it as the condition is normal.   The process could take up to a year before the hair go back to its normal account of falling out, a few strands at a time.

Besides hair loss after pregnancy, a woman might notice changes in her nails.  During pregnancy, nails become notably harder.  Just as there is a normal amount of hair loss after pregnancy, the fingernails will also go back slowly to the way a woman had normally experienced them.

It is normal to experience hair loss when you are pregnant, due to a result of your hormones gently readjusting to their normal pre-pregnancy form.  Hormones influence many parts of the body, including hair, nails, milk production, ovulation, moods, and menstruation.   So, do not worry or be afraid if you notice hair loss after pregnancy.   Things will gently go back to normal after child birth.
